Calling all blue black ink lovers! I am one of you, and I was excited to see this article posted on JetPens comparing some brands of blue black ink. Great article, but I was surprised to see the swab for Parker Blue Black (each swab is listed under its name). I use Parker Blue Black a lot and mine looks much darker than that. See for yourself.

This page above is from my ink journal from February of last year and this one below I did about half an hour ago.

Maybe my ink bottle is old; it was purchased in February of 2014 so it’s possible. Because I can’t see the experts at JetPens making a mistake, especially since they go on to describe the Parker Blue Black as a “teal-leaning blue”. I would not agree but that’s ok. Anyway just something I noticed that seemed to jump off the page at me. If any of you use Parker Blue Black let me know your opinion.

This was kind of exciting: Brian Goulet mentioned inlovewithjournals in his Goulet Q&A, Episode No. 88, in answering my question from the previous week. Check it out here; my question is the first one.

And finally a rousing article from theutopianlife.com, about the 10 Surprising Benefits You’ll Get From Journaling. I heard Nathan’s interview with Thai Nguyen in his podcast on his site, Write4Life and I was moved to check out Thai’s site. This article is great and yes, it will be copied into my journal. Enjoy!

Until next post, happy writing!

Journal I’m currently using: Navy Blue Cross Journal (only 11 pages left so soon I will be moving into a new one!)

Total pages written since last JWW post (May 7): 18

Total pages to date since project inception (Dec 11/13): 312

Total pages written in 2014: 257

Total number of notebooks/pens/ink bought since self-imposed spending freeze (Jan 1/14): 3

  • 1 pen + 1 bottle of ink = 2 items in a gift set on Jan 14
  • 1 bottle of KoninginneNach-Blauw from Akkerman on Feb 5

Topics covered since last update:

  • Inked up my black Hero with Parker Quink Blue-Black and made a mess when the converter slipped. Blue-black fingers!
  • Drama resolved at work. The black clouds have lifted!
  • Moved workstations at work. Traded bright morning sun for lazy afternoon sun. Love it.
  • Spent a lovely afternoon with one of my best friends and her mom. We ate quiche, brownies and fruit, drank tea and talked about knitting. We had planned on actually knitting but the talking got in the way. Was surprised by some wonderful “just because” presents which included some funky sticky notes which I will include in a future blog post
  • Great quote I found:

The writer who postpones the recording of his thoughts uses an iron which has cooled to burn a hole with.  – Thoreau

Until next week, happy writing!

As some of you know I have a small supply of ink, some of which have appeared in blog posts. I have a mixture of bottled ink and cartridges. I can’t say which I prefer – both have their advantages. I was keeping the ink all over the place until I reorganized my office. Now I have all my ink in one place: my ink cabinet.

The top shelf houses my Lamy ink in the middle, and my two bottles of Quink. The middle shelf holds my J. Herbin ink cartridge tins, and the bottom shelf has the rest of my cartridges on the left, my Akkerman bottle in the middle and a spice jar full of empty cartridges on the right. I want to buy an ink syringe so I can re-use the empty cartridges.

Here’s a bit of a close up. I realize now the dark ink against the dark wood does not make for a great picture but you get the idea. The lighter cartridge packages and tins make for an interesting contrast I hope.

The cabinet was a Christmas gift from my sister many, many years ago. I think it originally contained bath products or something like that. I kept the cabinet because I thought it was beautiful. It’s been keeping some figurines safe for me but I recently bought a curio shelf at an antique store and it is perfect them. That left this cabinet open for possibility, and I thought my ink would look nice in it, while still being kept out of direct sunlight.

I will post further updates as the collection grows, as I’m sure it will. I have 11 J. Herbin colours out of a possible 30, so there is definitely room for growth. And then there are the bottled J. Herbin inks!! I will need a bigger cabinet!  🙂

Journal I’m currently using: Navy Blue Cross Journal

Total pages written since last JWW post (Mar 19): 12

Total pages to date since project inception (Dec 11/13): 216

Total pages written in 2014: 161

Total number of notebooks/pens/ink bought since self-imposed spending freeze (Jan 1/14): 3

  • 1 pen + one bottle of ink = 2 items in a gift set on Jan 14
  • 1 bottle of KoninginneNach-Blauw from Akkerman on Feb 5

Topics covered since last update:

  • I’m running out of Bleu Pervenche ink, my preferred ink for my Monteverde Prima. I just might have to purchase a bottle! It’s funny how I’m loathe to put any other colour in it.
  • I’m selling some purses on kijiji. It’s slow but I have had one offer
  • Budget woes
  • Still having a ball writing to InCoWriMo folks, even though technically it is over. I still have a stack of letters to reply to!
  • Inked up my black Hero 6021 with Parker Quink in Blue-black. Love!
  • Enjoyed Stephen Brown’s latest entry for Inkcyclopedia: Montblanc Salzburger Festspiele
  • Figuring out where to store my ink (cartridges and bottles) so they are all together (future blog post)
  • Went to Bookclub this week and we saw Divergent
  • Discovered Zen Habits by Leo Babauta – thank you Randall!
  • Learned a lot (more than I wanted to) about Landlord/Tenant disputes; my friend is having a rough time and it’s frightening what Landlords are legally allowed to do

That’s enough for now. Until next week, happy writing.
